Derbyshire wood burners for every kind of home

Few counties have housing as mixed as Derbyshire’s, and the type of property makes a real difference to the installation job.

  • Peak District stone cottage
Gritstone and limestone cottages around Buxton, Bakewell, and Hathersage often have thick walls and wide old fireplaces, which suit retrofitting a stove into an existing fireplace. The chamber and hearth are shaped to suit the opening rather than the other way around.
  • High Peak winters
Buxton is one of the highest market towns in England, and a cold chimney there can be slow to draw when you first light up. You might need our guide to pre-heating a chimney in cold weather.
  • Mill town terraces
Long Eaton, Belper, and Glossop grey up around textile mills, and their terraced houses often have older flues that need relining. Our 10m liner is part of every package, and our flue liner replacement service will take care of anything bigger.
  • Suburban and new-build homes
Newer estates around Derby and Chesterfield may not have a chimney, in which case a twin-wall flue system is the ideal replacement.

Don't just take our word for it, see what our clients have said about us.

Great service, quick to respond to initial query and Callum always responded to any queries in between I had too. Stove looks great, was surprised how quick the two lads get.the job done as it's all spot on. Can't wait for the winter now!

Smoke control across Derbyshire

Smoke control in Derbyshire is patchy, and it depends on your district rather than the county. Much of Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire falls inside smoke control areas; Erewash has them around Long Eaton and Ilkeston, and South Derbyshire has them in parts of Swadlincote and Stenson Fields.

Inside one of these areas, a chimney can only give off smoke when it’s an exempt appliance or authorised fuel doing the burning. All of the Derbyshire wood burners we install are Defra-approved, which puts them in the exempt category. This also means wood is fine, as long as it’s well-seasoned, properly dried logs and manufacturer-approved.

The benefit to a local installation team is that they are familiar with the rules set out by each district council, so you can be sure that your new log burner will be fully compliant as well as visually stunning.

Getting your stove fitted

We know that price is the biggest barrier to overcome. To help with this, we use an online stove package builder, which lets you choose the stove, chamber, hearth, and beam, and shows you exactly how much you can expect to pay, removing any fear of the final cost.

Adam then personally checks the details of your home and chimney, arranges a fitting date that works well for you, and returns for installation. On the day, our team handles the flue liner, stove, chamber, and hearth, tidying up after themselves so you can lock up and settle down in front of the fire as soon as we leave!

Plus, as each team is HETAS registered, you don’t need to book a building control sign-off appointment - our team can self-certify on the day and send you your HETAS certificate in due course.
